Bike to work week

Admittedly, I’m out of the loop regarding the Bike to Work Week. Ok, cut me some slack, I live in LA! If I could bike to work, then it would be on a beach cruiser and I would declare a “Bike to work year”, but alas such is not the case, so I’ll stop with the shoulda-coulda-woulda. However, I do wholeheartedly support, encourage and envy all those of you who can bike to and from work.

Green luxury condos

This month’s Vanity Fair annual green issue features HL23 - Neil Denari’s new project at 23 Street in New York’s West Chelsea Arts district. Above is only a digital rendering of the avant-garde structure that is set to be completed in 2009. The futuristic 14 floor luxury green condominium tower is built for lower power use and Denari is striving for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) gold certificate by the US Green Building Council. Various building and zoning challenges put aside, the architect designed a building with one condo per floor and three unique facades, “a rarity in Manhattan’s block structure”.

Rogan roots

The clothing brand Rogan recently branched out into furniture. Their minimalist new line consists of tables, chairs and lighting and can be seen on a separate website: Rogan Objects. The simplicity of design, combined with natural colors and textures, is reminiscent of their clothing pieces. And the best part about Rogan Objects is that they are constructed from recycled industrial materials and treated at an environmentally low-impact tannery . The purity of form and rugged finish keeps in the spirit of their concept and charms you into the timeless world of relaxed casual American ruggedness. I’m personally a fan of this steel and bull hide square chair with ottoman. Looks like a cozy Sunday paper seat.

Wrapping cloth

Wrapping Cloth by Rikrak

Whether you make your mom a gift for Mother’s day or buy one, use wrapping cloth instead of wrapping paper. I found some beautiful wrapping cloths by Rikrak on Etsy, an they come in different colors and patterns. But if you’re crafty, you can make one just as easily on your own. The great thing about wrapping cloths is that they are reusable instead of disposable. You can re-purpose them later as journal or book covers.
