Pack green for your vacation
Have you ever thought about how much trash and wasted energy a single vacation can generate? It seems to be something the Environmental Protection Agency is concerned about, and they’ve posted some tips for reducing vacation waste on their website. Here are a few suggestions for preparing for a green vacation. Before you leave, turn your water heater down to it’s vacation setting, and turn down your air conditioning. These two suggestions for a green vacation will help you conserve energy and save money on utility bills. And forget about buying all the travel size toiletries for your trip. Although I must admit that those travel size toiletries are awfully cute, you can easily make your own with a set of reusable bottles, or just take your full size toiletries. After all, a family of 4 can wipe out a travel size shampoo in just a day. Packing for a green vacation is a great opportunity to use reuse all those plastic grocery bags that you don’t know what to do with. Take them along for holding dirty clothes, storing wet swimsuits, and holding trash. When you get home, don’t forget to recycle them.

Bamboo bathroom vanity
Doing a green bathroom remodel? Check out this bamboo bathroom vanity by Linea Aqua. I love the look of the bamboo cabinetry with chrome highlights, which would really tie in well with some chrome bathroom accessories like a soap dispenser and towel rack. Bamboo is considered a green building material because it is a plentiful and renewable natural resource. And, did you know bamboo cabinetry and furniture is more durable than other woods because is harder and can naturally withstand more moisture absorption? This bamboo bathroom cabinet is 34 inches tall and comes with the marble counter top, porcelain sink, and back splash shown in the photo. I think bamboo furniture as beautiful as this is proof that a green remodel can be just as fabulous, if not more fabulous, than a traditional bathroom remodel.

If you live in the Venice Beach area, check out the Venice Eco-Fest set for tomorrow. Sure to be a fun and family-friendly day, the festival will include lots of green living ideas from more than 150 eco-friendly businesses. In addition, Venice Eco-Fest will be a great place for trying out nutritious, organic snacks and vegetarian cuisine! And, what’s a festival without music? Performers set to perform on the solar-powered sound stage include Kathy Leonardo, The Luminaries and Preeta. Famed environmentalist and actor,Ed Begley, Jr. is also scheduled to attend. Green Our Vaccine
Wow, who would’ve known? A pure coincidence! Although “Green Vaccine” is completely unrelated to “Green Our Vaccines” march, I do whole-heartedly support the cause, and all of the people who were out in Washington D.C. last week rallying for it. Among them were Jenny McCarthy, her son Evan and Jim Carrey. Jenny and Jim have been active spokesmen for the cause since Evan was diagnosed with autism. According to the Jim Carrey Online Forum, Jenny calls Jim “the Autism Whisperer” because he is so great with Evan and has been able to cure him of his fear of dogs, water and thunderstorms. Evan’s condition inspired Jenny to write a book, Louder Than Words, about her experience with fighting for her son’s treatment. The vaccine controversy is disturbing to say the least, and I am glad that people are raising awareness about harmful toxins in vaccines and vaccine scheduling for kids. “Too Many Too Soon” statement on the back of the “Green Our Vaccines” t-shirts says it all.

Adrian Grenier and his Alter Eco
These days Adrian Grenier has a new entourage on his soon-to-be-aired show, Alter Eco, on Planet Green channel about to be launched by Discovery. The cameras will follow Grenier and his Green Team (style guru Boise Thomas, model Angela Lindvall and renovations expert Darren Moore), around LA, while they tackle environmental projects and show us how easy it is to be eco-conscious and reduce our carbon footprint . Alter Eco will premier June 9 as a 13-part series. I just might check it out.

Bike to work week
Admittedly, I’m out of the loop regarding the Bike to Work Week. Ok, cut me some slack, I live in LA! If I could bike to work, then it would be on a beach cruiser and I would declare a “Bike to work year”, but alas such is not the case, so I’ll stop with the shoulda-coulda-woulda. However, I do wholeheartedly support, encourage and envy all those of you who can bike to and from work.
